US Government Surplus List? - again.

A while back, I queried whether it was possible to obtain the list for
US Government Surplus for crystallographic equipment.

Email replies stated that an unsorted list did exist but it was not
easy to get a hold of. Would anyone be able to get hold of this list
and post it too this newsgroup or deposite it at another type of
information server? As it sounds like some very good equipment is
being sold for scrap metal, this could be of general benefit.

Thanks in advance,

Lachlan.

Response A:

There is such a list. The last time I checked, you needed to
be a grantee of the same agency remaindering the equipment to get it
easily (Usually for nothing other than transportation.). If you are
not a grantee, then basically you have to bid on it and then only
after the strong arm types have shifted it around. I believe there is
a monthly listing of the various items up for sale by the government,
but I don't believe it is sorted into science/nonscience.

Response B :

I bought a working CAD-4 with a long-arm detector system, and a PDP-8A
(also working) for $276US. It was a sealed bid. It's now in my garage.
I'm about to replace the PDP-8A with a 486DLC40 running FreeBSD.

I'm going to use it for testing high-resolution small area
detectors. It has half-inch transparent shielding on left, right,
front, and top, with no shielding on the back. The front has
sliding overlap doors. Not bad for $276US :-)
