So, if I understand you correctly, you're willing to agree a warming trend exists, but you don't necessarily believe it's caused by man - true? If that's the case, I have 2 things to say. 1 - facts - combustion of carbon fuels, deforestation, cattle grazing, and rice farms release carbon into the air - carbon reacts w/oxygen in the air to create carbon dioxide - carbon dioxide traps heat in the earth's atmosphere - the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere has been continually increasing - man's activities listed in the 1st fact have been continually increasing 2 - proof and theories Most things just can't be proven 100%. Theories are proposed based on observations and studies. As time goes on, if the theory is not disproved and enough scientists believe it's true, it becomes accepted as truth. For example, nobody knowns 100% for sure smoking causes cancer, but there's enough studies pointing towards it, and the majority of scientists believe it. So, it is now accepted as truth (w/most people). Among the scientific community (and most of the rest of the world) it is widely accepted that man is the cause of global warming. It's only questioned in America. As far as I know, all scientists that have spoken against this theory are funded by oil/coal industries. BTW, enviro groups don't fund all of those that believe in the theory (they don't have the $$'s). For anyone that doesn't already spend too much time on the internet, the Union Of Concerned Scientists has a good site on global warming (http://www.ucsusa.org). They tend to be more into facts than some enviro groups. --------------- John W. Herberg herberj@ibm.net
