From: Owner-OS2News@teamos2.org Subject: OS2News: Humour - Vapourware, Inc. reply-to: kjbaxter@welchlink.welch.jhu.edu Sender: Owner-OS2News@teamos2.org Precedence: bulk Apparently-To: os2news-outgoing@teamos2.org Status: New Technology Watcher Magazine (r) March 26, 1996 BALTIMORE, MD. VaporWare, Inc., developer of the award-winning VaporWare Office Suite, announced that the software giant will not port its software portfilio to the OS/2 platfrom. Peter Chance, senior VP of product development said, "Actually, we never had plans to develop anything for OS/2. But after hearing that Oracle, Corel and FrameMaker un-announce their plans for OS/2, we summized that *NOT* writing for OS/2 is now vogue." Willmintogn Spaulding, chief techonology analyst at Dick Hurtz & Assoc., a technology industry research firm in Columbia, MD, said that this only reiterate what industry pundits have said for nearly a decade, "OS/2 is dead. Forget the banner December 1995 sales figure; forget the oustanding... oh, I mean, unexplanable high January sales figures; never mind that IBM's outsource arm, ISSC, is installing OS/2 everywhere, whether or not their client want it; never mind that John W. Thompson is that biggest OS/2 asset and cheeleader in a decade. None of that matters. When you have a heavy weight like VaporWare, which never had an OS/2 project anyway, announce that it will not develop for OS/2 even before it announces that it will develop for OS/2, I think you should see the hand writing on the wall." A well placed source at VaporWare, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that not developing for OS/2 will help that company focus its resource on its currently supported platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, SunOS/Solaris, DG-UX, SCO Unix, Novel DOS/Netware/UnixWare, MS/PC-DOS, AppleDOS, MacOS/PowerMAC OS, Windows 3.x/95/NT, Plan9, OS-9, AmigaDOS, Atari OS, QNX, PC-MOS, Dec VAX/VMS, Dec Ultrix, IBM MVS/VS/VSE, embedded DOS, exteneded DOS, over-extended DOS, Apple AUX, Commodore 64/128 OS, Adam OS, Texas Instruments OS. The source went on to say said that developing for OS/2 would blur that company's focus, and was not a strategic platform. IBM officials could not be reached for comments. Reporter: LarryLippschitz
