And how many times have you or anyone else had nothing but trouble
with Compaq or Dell products. Or found out they used proprietary parts
so that WHEN a part fails, you can only get the part from them, at
MUCH HIGHER PRICES. Ex. Dell is starting to use SDRAM. Proprietary. SO
what happens if that part fails one day after the warranty runs out?
You pay a HUGE price to Dell for a replacement.

The majors produce so many components that they cannot maintain
quality control.

I have used many OEM parts and the ONLY one I ever had trouble with
were Holtek controller cards.

Currently I am running a Pentium board made by Singh, a no name 16 bit
sound card with wavetable daughterboard, and NEC on third party board
SIMMS. My modem is a 28.8 Voice/data/fax made by Newcom and my 8x CD
ROM is made by Vertos. My Video is a 2MB PCI Cirrus Logic. And the
real name brand in my system is my Intel Pentium CPU.

The motherboard has seen 3 different CPU's (upgrades, not failures)
and can accomodate up to a 200 Mhz Pentium. Cost? USD $109.00. Price
of my modem? $87.00. CD ROM? $92.00. Video was $55.00.

So going with the name brands, I would have paid over double what I
paid, and if the part fails, off to the service site for 3-4 weeks. If
the above parts listed fail, my system is down for 1 DAY, since I just
return it to the vendor.
