I'm a subject librarian and I'm interested in understanding : more about how these kinds of budgets work. Also, if anyone has : experience with this and would like to comment it would be appreciated. I am currently working on a Master's thesis on budgets in academic libraries derived from formulas. There is an extensive bibliography that I can post out to anyone who sends me an address. I evaluated a number of factors that can be used in a formula for allocation among subject departments and found a number of combinations that work. Some of the best variables include: annual number of titles published in the field, number of enrollments, loans per volume held in the previous year, and percentage of assessment based on assignments requiring library use. I expect to finish the thesis by December. Bob Hoffman
