Okay, ... "is shown." Are you happy now?

Is this a sick joke, or one of the long-running jokes about President
Reagan's memorry?
No matter, I think that both men are completely sincere in their
beliefs. I don't know either personally, but I am a fairly good judge of
character at times, and I'm usually good at sniffing out the opportunists
and hypocrites in politics. (Refer to my next paragraph.)

Oh, that's been an accepted price for a while now. You can get a
Speakership for just about any ol' soul. It's been more or less routine
for it to be bought thusly for the past few terms, I think.

Aha, in one point you defend open-mindedness quite rightly, but above it
you said that if these two would open their minds, they'd agree with
you. Perhaps you are being obstinate, stubborn, and refusing to open
your mind, my dear friend.
I speculate only. Perhaps you have known the men in question and
happen to know that they didn't consider the issues before they decided
on their positions. I don't know either of them. And I'm not going to
join in your criticism.
