A great deal, no matter how you feel about Desert Storm or about
environmentalism.  On one side, "the environmental President" can
point to Desert Storm as evidence that the U.S. is too dependent on
imported oil, so the obvious solution is to drill more in the U.S.  On
the other side, environmentalists can point to both Desert Storm and
the Exxon Valdez as evidence that the U.S. is too dependent on OIL,
regardless of where it comes from, so the obvious solution is to use
less of it.  Both sides will agree that how the U.S. deals with its
oil needs affects whether there's another Desert Storm in ten or
twenty years.

(Wow, I haven't been that even-handed in months.  I'll get over it,
promise...)
