No, I wouldn't be surprised, because it's either a safe assumption that 
my friends and neighbors are sane human beings, or it's NOT a safe 
assumption.

If it's not a safe assumption, then I don't think this Humanity 
Experiment is working out, and it may well be time for God to pull the 
plug.

What you're describing is a lack of certain parties to make their case 
about specific dangers, and a failure of certain other parties to 
formulate solutions which make any logical sense.

In general, it is easy for us to see the dangers of releasing active 
chemicals into the troposphere--in the aggregate. On the other hand, 
since we can barely keep up with the pressures caused by the fantastic 
advances in medicine throughout the last century, we are faced with a 
vital dependence on certain technologies--which in turn, require 
releasing certain active chemicals into the troposphere.

Air pollution isn't an uncomplex problem, and no one wants to poison the 
troposphere. The challenge is in making a clear and compelling case, and 
formulating logical solutions and corrective measures.
