=o= Not in my experience.  Greens do want to move "backwards"
to direct forms of democracy and a more community-oriented
society.  Conservative ideology claims to want the very same
thing, though, and generally promotes these things as the
ends which their various proferred means are leading to.

=o= On the other hand, I've met a lot of people in the Green
Party who are pretty active in cutting-edge appropriate
technology.  A Green showed me the first solar cell array I've
ever seen.  Another one turned me on to compact fluorescent
lights.  It's not clear to me what any of this has to do with
"some sort of idealized past."

=o= From the perspective of a universe heading towards entropy,
sure, but so what?  We're talking about the here and now, for
which the Greens would like to apply some ecological wisdom.

=o= And ecology *does* provide scientific basis for sustainable
living practices.  Life on earth relies on a complex web of
composting and recycling -- some of our species have simply
neglected to pull our own weight.
