=o= There's nothing to be surprised about, since Greens have
always been open about their positions on the issues.  At any
rate, James said that he already did read the Green platform,
so your statement doesn't make a shred of sense.  There are a

The claims of socialism are, to put a fine point on it, idiotic.
The evidence is on that web page.  In particular, the emphasis
on grassroots democracy, decentralization, and community-based
economics are diametrically opposite from what most people
consider socialism.

=o= It's true that the Green movement isn't entirely about
environmental protection.  The worldwide Green movement is
built upon four pillars:

	Ecological Wisdom
	Social Responsibility
	Direct Democracy
	Nonviolence

It's pretty typical for Americans to try to try to make things
bigger :-), so most Green Parties in the United States have
signed on to an expanded version of that list, known as the
"Ten Key Values:"

	Ecological Wisdom
	Social Justice
	Grassroots Democracy
	Nonviolence
	Decentralization
	Community-based Economics
	Feminism
	Respect for Diversity
	Personal and Global Responsibility
	Future Focus

If you look closely, though, you'll see that all of these values
can be derived from the 4 pillars and the (4 - 1)! permutations
between them.
