Having watched someone die from cancer and seen the effects of so called pain relief, there is little the medical profession can do other than the above. Go to a cancer/aids hospice and sit with the terminally ill for a while. See the impotence of the medicos as they step up the morphine until the patient doesn't even know their own children. >>IMHO, part of the problem is the refusal of the medical profession to admit >that > >>a. They can do nothing to cure a disease >>b. They can do little to prevent suffering >I can tell you from personal experience that (b) is total bulls**t. >Kym's stats software may have noticed a slight dip in my posting >frequency slightly before the Andrews vote. Terrific..... and when Nature is doing nothing but increasing the pain... what then?. Your little illness is nothing compared with the agony endured by the terminally ill. Contrary to what some in this >group would have us believe I was not drugged into a zombie, but I assure >you I would not have been able to endure sitting up to type without >chemical assistance. I doubt anyone out there in Internetland noticed >any difference. (You probably think I post _all_ my articles on drugs ;-) So a few hours on pethadine and you know it all? try months as the pain gets worse and as your body starts to develop a tolerance. Feel your mind turn to slush as the Morphine levels begin to reach fatal levels, but it is only the pain that is keeping you alive. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Eleanor Shipp "There's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about"..OW --------------------------------------------------------------------
