Libel laws provide suficient protection to us all. Hate laws are : just a way of furthering the political agenda of those in power. ummm. pardon me? libel laws respect only those who have the wherewithal to sue against those with the wherewithal to be sued. ie. those without funds are exempt, and thus the reason for criminal law in this matter. : Unfortunately for the framers of so-called hate laws, they may not be in : power forever. Thats why the 1st ammendment to the U.S. constitution is : so important. It is a safeguard against tyranny. Too bad we don't have : the same rights here. ummm. excuse me. but promoting social hatred usually results in the (target) social groups being censored in some manner - if not intentionally, unconsciously by the (target) audience. lets precede mention of the first amendment with recognition of one of a prime precepts of the constitution, ie, all men (ummm, maybe should be people) are born equal. if you abuse your right to free speech, you are denying the precept that all are born equal. it took u.s. courts what, 1.5+ centuries to recognise this point. and greater u.s. society appears still hesitant to embrace it (and for the most part, apparently due to greed or avarice). now, if you feel you are entitled to curtail the free speech of a part of society you deny all respect for, i feel sorry for you. cultural and social isolation has its costs both socially and genetically (gee, how else would one explain the high incidence of hemophilia in the royal families of greater europe - not to mention other genetic disorders). not to mention the stagnation of society as a whole when entire segments are denied participation. denying others the right to accumulate wealth within the law by acting outside the law does not appear in the best interest of our greater society. i really believe you should re-examine your rationale here. --
