Labor economists, those who actually have a decent shot at getting the right answer on this matter, believe that illegal aliens cause the rest of us to have better standards of living, on the whole. This works via employers hiring them. Since hiring illegals makes the rest of us better off, why should we punish the employers for LEGALLY hiring them? The law requires employers to look at documents provided to them, and if the documents meet the form I-9 requirements, then they are permitted to hire. The employers in this case likely follow the law. So they act legally, and do something good for us. Seems odd to punish them for that. After being afforded due process of law, of course. > >ted
