Interesting that you also posted to a Mac Advocacy News Group with this
post. To answer your question, Windows 95 has some remnant 16 bit code.
Pentium Pros are optimized to run pure 32 bit code, which means Windows
NT. Ordinary Pentiums run 16 bit apps in Win95 about 20%-30% faster than
a Pentium Pro of similar clock speed. A Pentium Pro will run Windows NT
about 25-35% faster than an ordinary Pentium. But it gets more
complicated. Even though all your other applications are 32 bit, there
are still going to some 16 bit calls inherit in Windows 95. The overall
performance will probably favor the Pentium Pro 150 only slightly when
running only 32 bit apps in Win95. When you run 16 bit apps the ordinary
Pentium 133 will be only slightlty faster or about the same. The short
answer is get the Pentium Pro if the price is the same or within a
hundred bucks. If you switch to WinNT later on, you'll a nice increase
in performance with the Pent Pro.
