In article <4grcs0$rk2@news.ios.com>, "Alan H. Peterson" <uscccn@haven.ios.com> says: > >In recent years, the growth rate of the United States economy has fallen >below the historic pattern. Budget deficits, continued growth of the >National Dept and persistent, huge trade deficits are key warning >signals. The income tax, which is anti-savings and anti-investment, and >which adversely affects our international competitiveness, must be >abolished. Burdensome government regulations join the income tax as a >cause of our problems. Increased economic growth and elimination of the >trade deficit will follow abolition of the income tax and a national >reduction of burdensome government regulations. Without increased >economic growth, other problems, such as the decline in the quality of >education and increased crime will not be solved. > >Let's abolist the Federal income tax and replace it with a National >Sales Tax.... > > Maybe we should abolish politicians instead. They're probably the greatest cause of our need for taxes (early pensions, travelling trips, etc.). I don't know what it's like in the States, but we'll NEVER have one here. In Canada we have to pay national tax and provincial tax at income tax time. Also when we buy any product we have to pay general sales tax on that product or service (7% in BC). We also have to pay 7% provincial sales tax on any product we buy in BC. Then there are all the hidden taxes that are almost impossible for the public to trace - taxes on gas, cigarettes, liquor, etc. On some items we have to pay recycling taxes, and now even paint companies can collect extra charges from people. (I haven't been able to figure out yet which governmental agency authorized that one because they all deny it.) All in all, the way things are going, pretty soon ANYONE AT ALL will be able to add taxes and charges to your bill like the paint people do. Taxes stink! The worst thing I noticed was that the more we pay,the fewer services we get. Is that fair? Soon we'll be giving all our money to the government for NO services. Surely it would be much smarter to just keep our money, look after our own services, and send politicians out looking for good honest work like the rest of us. -- Alleycat
