Hello, all. I am providing this information because I feel that it is
wrong that the university can censor anything it feels 'might get it in
trouble,' without legal grounds fo doing so.

(This provides info specifically for UBC users, but you can probably get it
to work for you if you are not at UBC.)

[just joking! ;-)]

* * *  Instructions for getting alt.karla-homolka from UBC  * * *

Connect to View UBC (UBC's gopher server)
[You can get in from most accounts by typing 'gopher' at a Unix prompt.
Or, dial 822-9600, enter ubclib (with a barcode number), and choose 'GOP'.]

Choose the following menu itmes:
10. The World: BC and beyond/
2. Other gopher information services/
6. Search gopherspace using Veronica/
[Choose any search item. One of the NYSERNet ones worked for me]
[Enter 'karla-homolka' as the search keyword]
[One of the search results should get you the entire subject list for the
alt.fan.karla-homolka newsgroup! Choose any subject to read the associated
 article]

This technique worked for me, so it should work for you. I don't see how the
university could cut this access out without killing all access via gopher
(and also telnet, for the adventurous).

You may be able to try gophering to the University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign. Under 'Computer documentation/information'->'Usenet FAQs and
archives' there are a few options to read Usenet news. However, at least when
I tried, I couldn't get on to one of them (it complained about too many
connections) and the backup server didn't carry alt.fan.k-h. Mabey you will
have better luck via that route.

All the best,
 - Joseph
