While commercialism is part of sport and to be expected at the Olympics,
there is a point where it is excessive.  It passed that point for me
the weekend before the torch run in Athens.  Coke decided to place
banners along the route and they supplied the banner and rope, but
not poles, deciding to use existing poles. Okay, except that whomever
hung them decided that it was perfectly okay to hang them between
traffic light poles at intersections, thus completely blocking the
sidewalk and making the curb-cuts inaccessible.  When the placement
of advertisement obstructs the way, it sends a message to people -
Coke cares more about selling it's product than about people.  It's
the thoughtless and proprietory attitude (the Coke-Cola Classic
Center!) that was the problem for me, not the presence of commercial
sponsors and advertisements.   I switched to Pepsi.
