You can get IDE writers working via > a kernel recompile, but SCSI is best for an OS like linux. You don't need to recompile any more. I just installed Redhat 6.1, and I've discovered that I can drive my IDE CD writer through the IDE-SCSI emulation just with the appropriate boot-time option and module installation. I can even now leave my standard CD drive as an IDE device, just selecting the writer to pretend to be SCSI. (The reason for needing this is that cdrecord, which I use to write CDs, only supports SCSI interfaces. However, since ATAPI is essentially SCSI commands over an IDE interface, a very lightweight ide-scsi emulator allows it to use ATAPI writers as well.) Jon Moore
