Intel Pentium II 300MHz, Intel 440BX Chipset Avoid the 300-go with the 333, unless you're planning on replacing your furnace with the computer. The 300s run _very_ hot. >2. Video Card >either 8mb ATI 3D Xpert98 >or 8mb Matrox Productiva G100 >or 8mb Hercules Terminator 128/3D AGP Check the supported hardware for your release--the G100 is not supported as far as I know by 2.0. I've not played with it enough yet to figure out if there's a workaround. Personally I'd find an S3-based board. >3. Audio Card >either Creative Labs AWE65 Wavetable Soundcard >or Ensoniq AudioPCI on board >or Creative Labs SoundBlaster Vibra 16 Soundcard Vibra 16's your best bet. The AWE64 can be made to work. >4. Internal IDE (ATAPI) Zip Drive Dunno about Zip support. Things have always seemed kind of pointless to me so I've never played with them. > >5. Hard drive (Ultra ATA DMA) and CDROM are both standard (IDE?). Neither is an issue. Both will work fine with recent kernels. >6. Linux doesn't really care about the monitor. >7. Memory is "Ultra Fast" (100Mhz?) SDRAM. If you're using a 333 or less this is not important. If you're using a 350 or higher then you have to have fast RAM as those processors run on a 100 MHz bus rather than 66, and non-PC100 RAM will get flakey. But fast RAM won't make a 300 run any faster. > >Thanks for your help. > >From, > >Tim -- --John Reply to jclarke at eye bee em dot net.
