Hi, I've been trying to set up INN and suck recently and they are half working. I can post articles to localhost (well actually dunvegan1) using Netscape (like I am now) and when I run nntpsend they get posted of to my ISP's news server. I can also run suck and it'll download all the new articles from my ISP but when suck tries to post these freshly downloaded articles to localhost it recieves an error from INN saying "Error 480: Transmission permission denied". This error comes up for every article. I've uploaded "/etc/news" to http://www.dunvegan1.demon.co.uk/news.tar.gz and "/etc/suck" to http://www.dunvegan1.demon.co.uk/suck.tar.gz. My /etc/hosts file is as follows: 127.0.0.1 localhost dunvegan1 [snip stuff about IPv6] My online IP/DNS is just configured using PAP when I dialup. I can ping "localhost" and "dunvegan1" when offine and dunvegan1.demon.co.uk only when I'm online. Netscape refers to my news server as "dunvegan1". The command line I use for running suck is as follows: "suck news.demon.co.uk -A -hl dunvegan1 -c -dd /var/spool/suck -dm /var/spool/suck/MSGS -dt /var/spool/suck -M -bp" I'm guessing that because this suck command is ran from my ip-up.d directory then the /etc/suck directory has absolutely no effect on suck... A final note - Before you hit reply remember to use email to reply, I can't get news articles downloaded yet... -- Paul Richards (Pauldoo) mailto:pauldoo@dunvegan1.demon.co.uk http://www.pauldoo.co.uk

Add your hostname (+localhost for good measure) to
/etc/news/incoming.conf (or wherever the file is). I have:
peer ME {
hostname: localhost
}
peer hopf {
hostname: hopf.demon.co.uk
}
and reload incoming.conf, ie
ctlinnd reload incoming.conf meow
