You sweet-talkin' silver-tongued cross-postin' devil.

They're called X-faces. Just make yourself a 48x48 pixel black and white
picture, and save it as x-face. GraphicConverter will do that. There is
an online X-Face converter with more explanation at
<http://www.dairiki.org/xface/>

Once you have a bit of text as an X-face, you need to use whatever
newsreader you prefer to add it as an extra header. In MacSoup, you edit
your personality (if only real life were so simple!).
