Thank you very much to those who have replied. I have received a number of
replies to my query. All of them draw on the senders' general knowledge of
the governance of charities in the UK. One person was able to tell me that:

"WWF International is a grouping of national organisations; WWF
International is registered in Switzerland (as a charity?) and is controlled
by a board of Trustees."

Another correspondent wrote:

"No-one can 'own' a charity, in the generally accepted sense of ownership. A
more pertinent question might be 'who *controls* a particular charity'?

The answer, I would guess, would be the dominant person or group of people
amongst its Trustees - the people who interpret the Trust's aims and take
decisions on what it should and should not do, at any given point in time."

This is all helpful guidance.

I'll keep on looking, the scope of my enquiries having been narrowed by your
advice.

Let me tell you what has set me off on this enquiry. Two things. (1) I have
always looked a bit askance at the cute panda logo of the WWF and the focus
on large mammals or other picture-postcard-perfect targets. But I have not
thought much about it. (2) Last week I came across a stationery catalogue
which (2a) prominently features photocopying paper made in Indonesia. The
catalogue does not identify the paper as Indonesian, but I know it is, as I
bought some and the wrapper identifies it as such. (2b) prominently features
full-page coloured advertisements for the WWF, including one with a
photograph of orang-utans which goes as far as to refer to "logging" and
"forest clearing" as a threat to that species. (3) a member of a rainforest
protection group told me of an uncritical (so put it at its most polite)
approach by the US WWF to rainforest clearing.

Anything further you can pass on to me which helps complete the jigsaw
puzzle I have outlined will be gratefully received.
