The World This Week. Firstly, an Australian born NASA astronaut Dr. Andrew Thomas will be living aboard the spacestation Mir for four months early next year. Dr. Thomas is the last of the NASA astronauts who will be living aboard Mir before it is decommisioned. It is a great honour for someone born outside the USA to be part of a NASA program like this, and Prime Minister Howard has expressed his envy. There is now a nationwide call for John Howard to be sent to Mir, preferably while it's being crashed into the pacific ocean. In a shock move this wednesday Senator Cheryl Kernot resigned her senate seat, and her position as Democrats leader to join the ALP. The politician who claimed she was there to keep the bastards honest has become one of the bastards herself, apparantly so she can more effectively work against the Howard Government. When asked for comment Prime Minister Howard said that he wasn't worried by Ms. Kernot's actions noting that no-one could possibly do any more damage to the government than he did himself. And finally, in California this Monday country music singer John Denver died when he flew an experimental plane into the ocean. Mr. Denver had no pilot's license at the time and had only bought the plane the day before the accident. John Denver is not the first musician to die in a plane crash, going the way of Richie Valens the Big Bopper and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Unfortunately the spice girls are still refusing to take flying lessons. Apparantly Elton John has offered to write a tribute song for John Denver's funeral, and here at the world this week we have an exclusive sneak preview of the lyrics, Goodbye country boy, lover of bulk alcohol. You wanted to be rocky mountain high, But your plane it wanted to fall. And it seems to me you lived your life, Like a drunkard on the stage. Marrying lots of young girls, Only just of age. And I would've liked to known you, I mean what I just said. Your engine burned out long before, Your candle ever did. And that's the world this week.
