SICOMP : A Silicon Compiler for Switched-Capacitor Filters

Date: Friday, March 21st, 1986
Abstract
A prototype automatic design and layout tool for
switched- capacitor filter circuits called SICOMP (SIlicon
COMPiler) will be described. SICOMP is capable of producing
a complete switched-capacitor filter layout from attenuation
specifications automatically.
The four major tools used are i) a filter design pro-
gram (FILTOR2), ii) a switched-capacitor circuit synthesizer
(AUTOSC), iii) a block layout compiler (AUTOBLOCK), and iv)
a standard cell place and route program (ALTOR). A menu
driven manager program is responsible for calling the vari-
ous programs in the system. A chip may be designed interac-
tively or automatically.
The two main approaches to automated analog layout will
be described, along with the details of the the particular
method used by SICOMP. Some experimental results from a
fabricated filter will also be given. There will also be a
prize given to anyone who can come up with a half decent
name (SICOMP has to go!).
