i completely agree with dude's assessment of kate chopin. just to please those of you who feel that a literary critique should sound intelligent, well here goes: kate chopin's writing style is extremely boring. in fact, most writing of this age tends to be this way. the genres of trancendentalism, romanticism, et al. are no exception because i feel that it is absolutely fruitless to try and model one's literary work after some silly, contrived definition. the result is, as i've said previously, tear-inducing boredom. not to spoil it for those of you who have not read the kate chopin short "desiree's baby", the original query does quite correctly state that this short contains a surprise twist. however, it is hardly enough to erase the boredom of her literary style. i'm sure that you want quotes, citations, etc. etc. to back up my arguments, but since this entire response is utter bulls**t (and, in fact, i have never even HEARD of kate chopin) i can not provide any. this all backs up my ultimate point: English majors suck because if i turned in an expanded version of these three or four paragraphs as a term paper, i would probably at least get a b+.
