Just in case you weren't joking, the OP almost certainly meant "geeks" without the 'r'. It wasn't a typo. They were looking for people who like hi-tech and stuff. I think DC has more nerds than geeks, and perhaps that's why there is less of a "geek community". What follows is just my opinion: geeks vs. nerds: left/liberal vs. right/conservative. gay, bisexual, polyamorous vs. family man. designer vs. programmer artist vs. engineer working for a startup vs. working for a defense contractor. community activism vs. attending PTA and city council meetings. ex-hippy vs. ex-military drugs can expand your mind vs. drugs are just stupid. Must use Open Source vs. Must use whatever works. Obviously these are stereotypes, nobody is a pure geek or a pure nerd. The common ground is an interest in technology which is served by technology-focused groups. Attend groups that cater to the technical interests that interest you. As you mill about, you will have no trouble telling the nerds from the geeks. Introduce yourself to the geeks, and the rest will sort itself out. --$teve comments@vrml3d.com
