I would hope that our government would do this same for > our guys in the east. In "my wars" (Korea and Viet Nam) we occasionally got a tidbit from the Red Cross. (Usually coffee and donuts.) I've never seen anything out of the Red Cross for the military that amounted to anything more than coffee and donuts. We got entertainment from the USO. We paid the full going rate for postage, even just to talk to Mom. We got no free postage. The only packages that I ever got was either merchandise that I had ordered, or stuff that my mother and her sister would put together and send to me. People joke about fruit cakes, but I can tell you that in the middle of the Viet Nam war those fruit cakes that my aunt always sent me were absolutely delicious! The fruitcake, itself, may have been dry and hard but the love and caring that went into the whole thing was almost as good as the wet, sloppy kiss that my dog gave me when I got home! These troops of ours 'out there' need to know that the people at home care and they they appreciate the fact that these troops are risking their lives for us. I've done my part! I went into the local recruiting office last Friday to sign up! Yesterday, I went to Fort Belvoir and passed the test.
