Um, I installed "Woody" and it was an extremely hellish task and I've
been doing Linux for Ages And Ages.
Only about 1 CD is the OS. The rest is "packages", RPMs for those of you
who are RedHat devotees. Buttloads of applications, a few gigs of them.
Why was the installation so hellish? Well, aside from <trade secrets
redacted>, the package-selector installation tool is _emacs_.
Only insane geniuses use EMACS, and I am not a genius.
Debian "Woody" does have an excellent if somewhat weird tool called
"apt-get", also in Gentoo, IIRC. It's sort of a super-enhanced RPM with
lots of error prevention.
But if you install "Woody", you better install a kernel of linux-2.4.25
or better, because the one it ships with has an exploitable memory
problem, which took down most of Debian's whole distribution and support
site.
