Well, it's not too much different, from my point of view, I'm coming out 
  of the Slackware tradition and prefer to get x.tar.gz files and 
configure them by hand.

I'm also pretty familiar with NetBSD's package handler, which is fairly 
similar to apt-get in practical operation.
