I'm looking for a program for VMS which will automatically generate a response, when I want it to, to mail which has been received by my account. Something like "I received you message with subject xxx. I'm away from my desk right now and will respond later today." I'm interested in something something that doesn't need major system privileges. I'm sure that somewhere in some decus archive or something there must be just what I want, but I'm really out of touch on what's available for VMS systems. Any leads are appreciated. -- Jon Beck, SoRReL Project GRA West Virginia University, Stat & CS beck@cs.wvu.wvnet.edu

A couple of months ago I received a reply from a product like this. It was called MAIL_WATCH (or WATCH_MAIL). All I know about it is it is running on an All-in-1 machine at Customer Support at DEC in Maynard. I asked for some info from my contact, but have not heard back yet. WatchMail is a way cool piece of DCL written (and maintained) by a buddy
of mine, Dan Schullman, at DEC. It has never, to the best of my
knowledge, been released into the public domain. I have a copy of it,
but only on the condition that I not release it. If you want to get a
copy from him, last I heard he was reachable at:
schullman@aqua.enet.dec.com
Maybe if enough people ask, he'll release it into the public domain.
