Good old Deals Direct

Don't put anything to valuable on it if you haven't got it saved
anywhere else.

It happens that I, too, scrutinized Coles prices (Syd) on Tuesday,
and the prices I saw were nothing like those in your suburb.

512 MB thumb drive was $9.99
1 GB was around $22 (i.e., more than double the half-gig)
2 GB was in the mid-$30s IIRC

IYO what would be a good price for 1 GB?

Seeing that MSY sell a Kingston 1GB for $12.00, I would say $12 to $20

Got a 1gb USB Flash drive a couple of years or so back and still working
well.
And the 4gb one came with a 2 year warranty.
Never had a problem with anything I have bought from DD and can thoroughly
recommend them. And it isn't because my Dad happens to be Mr DealsDirect
himself:-)

The main problem with some stores is they use the buy in bulk and save
motto, doesn't work if you can't sell the gear in a week or two. Only time
it worked for me was when I purchased a heap of ram years ago then the
earthquake hit and ram prices tripled, It was a good time to have over
purchased. Problem is that RAM prices drop too often to keep too many in
stock. Same with most PC parts but if a chain store gets a 50% discount on a
container load of thumb drives then the wholesale price drops by 80% while
that load is in transit, which often happens they are stuck flogging off
yesterdays in thing.
The longer they have it the worse it gets. Wouldn't you like to pay premium
prices for a 1GB sticks and then have 2GB available for less.
