Anyone planning on picking up the Apple User Group Satellite feed near the end of Oct.? I'm interested in finding a place to view/tape it. Last year a couple of us travel to UWMadison to view this. Does anyone know if they're planning to show it there again? Ron acct069@carroll1.cc.edu carroll1!acct069@uwm.edu UG-TV Only 17 Days left... before the second National UG-TV Broadcast scheduled for Wednesday evening, October 28, 1992, 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time, 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. To give you an idea of who and what you will see on the show, Ray Kaupp, Manager of the UGC, and I will be talking with the World Wide Product Managers from the following product groups: System Software, Desktop Products, Consumer Products, and Portable Products. Each product segment will end with a Q&A from around the country via an 800 number which will be displayed on the screen during the broadcast. There will be additional segments on Apple II, Newton, video clips, and a raffle. As you look for a site to view the broadcast, don't forget your local cable TV company. Last year we had a number of cable companies broadcast the show live on their local community access cable channels in California, Oregon, Arizona, and Virginia to name just a few. It might just take a quick phone call from you for UG-TV to be shown on cable in your town. Satellite downlink sites are readily available if cable isn't an option. Attached are the technical details a Broadcast Site Coordinator will need to locate a downlink site for your User Group. I also want to add that both of these options are VERY easy to do! So get out there and find a downlink site and be part of the Nationwide Apple User Group meeting. For further UG-TV details look on the User Group Connection bulletin board on AppleLink and America Online or send us a message via AppleLink: User .Groups or AOL: Apple UGC. You can also give me a call at (408) 974-3180. Regards, Rye Livingston User Group Connection ***************************** UG-TV INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BROADCAST SITE COORDINATORS OVERVIEW The following information has been prepared by Apple TV to assist the Broadcast Site Coordinator select a location to receive the UG-TV broadcast live via satellite. It also includes instructions for coordinating logistics on the day of the broadcast. RESPONSIBILITIES The Broadcast Site Coordinator is responsible for: - selecting the receive site location - assuring technical needs are met for receiving the broadcast - coordination of logistics at the site on the day of the broadcast - THE person to communicate with the point of broadcast origin (Apple TV studios) IF something goes wrong FOR STARTERS... The first thing the Broadcast Site Coordinator should do is make contact with potential receive site locations (e.g. hotel, sports bar, library, pizza parlor, school, etc.), to determine if the location can receive a satellite broadcast. The receive site should have either a C or Ku band satellite receive dish. You should confirm that the site can receive the broadcast using the following technical specifications: Satellite information: C-Band: Satellite: Galaxy 6 at 91!West Transponder: 20 Polarity: Vertical Downlink Frequency: 4100 Mhz. Ku-Band:* Satellite: G-Star 2 at 125! West Transponder: 4 Polarity: Horizontal Downlink Frequency: 11913 Mhz. *Please note! When checking out a downlink site that is Ku-Band, G-Star 2 and G-Star 4 have swapped locations in the sky. If the receiver has not been programmed with the change, they should be able to receive G-Star 2 by the location code for G-Star 4. TEST PERIOD BEFORE THE BROADCAST There will be a one hour test period before the broadcast start time. Ten minutes before the test period the Broadcast Site Coordinator should instruct the vendor to power on the broadcast receiving equipment. The Broadcast Site Coordinator should verify the following during the one hour test period: - the satellite dish is aimed at the correct satellite - the satellite receiver is tuned to the correct transponder/polarity - the video signal is visible on the TV monitor (you should see color bars with an Apple TV identifier) - the TV monitor or sound system has been set at the correct audio level (you'll hear a test tone or music) If you are not receiving the Apple TV color bars with either music or tone, contact the receive site vendor immediately. If you continue to experience problems and the receive site vendor cannot correct them call: Gunita Saxena at Apple TV at 408-862-7342. OTHER INFORMATION The viewing room should be open to the audience 30 minutes before the actual start of the broadcast . The screen will display a test signal before the scheduled start time. Introductions to the live broadcast should be completed no later that 2 minutes before the scheduled start time. PHONE Q&A: If you plan to participate in the live Q&A sections of the broadcast, the viewing room should have a dedicated outside phone line. A cellular phone is an option.
