Harper pours water into his wine on initial assessment of Israeli attacks at

CORNWALL, Ont. (CP) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper stepped back from his 
initial assessment of Israeli attacks as "measured," telling a Quebec 
television station Friday that things have changed and such judgments are 
more difficult.

"Frankly, we were talking about three weeks ago when Hezbollah took Israeli 
soldiers hostage, and an initial response," Harper told the TVA network.

"But now we have a completely different situation from three weeks ago, as 
I've said many times. We have a full-blown conflict, almost a war, and it's 
hard to say whether a response is proportional to another. It's a war."

Harper has been widely criticized for first using the word "measured," and 
for not responding more strongly as civilian casualties mount.

An opinion poll released to The Canadian Press this week suggested his 
party's support is declining, especially in Quebec where the Liberals have 
pulled ahead of the Tories. Another survey suggested Quebecers are the least 
supportive of his Mideast policy.

The only things that's changed in 3 weeks is that Harper has
finally relized that aside from 3/4 of Canadians being very
pissed off at Harpers reaction to the excesses of Israel, there's
140,000 people in Quebec with Lebanese ties that have told
the Conservatives that hell will freeze over before they ever
vote Conservative again.

No Harper we don't have almost a war, or a war, what we
have is state sanctioned terrorism murdering innocent women
and children in Lebanon and it's long past time it stopped and
those responsible hauled before an international tribunal.
