I have problem close to that one.  It is with MS Access and Acrobat for ActiveX control.  It will load up once, but when I load/click on another I get a "Automation Error" and the ActiveX Control is frozen.  I found out, those other newsgroups, to try unload Acrobat 5.05 reader and loading Acrobat 4.x reader.  I have found I am able to load all the PDFs I want.  I call Adobe about this, and they created a report of this. 

  Not saying this will work for you, but it is a work around for me.
