Hello! This is my first post, would apprecite your help greatly. The situation is this - I have a pc, motu 828 mkII (USB) and an se2200 condenser mic. I have the mic wired to the front of the 828 in the 'mic/guitar in 1' (XLR), and then I have the output of the motu (main outs 1&2, in the rear) going to a pair of ADM9 speakers (in their analog left and right connections), and the USB connection going to my PC. On the PC, I'm trying to use Adobe Audition to record the vocals coming from the se2200 - the problem is, when I arm for recording on multitrack view it starts scrolling across, but despite the fact that the motu is picking up the microphone sounds (the levels on the 'mic 1' are moving, so its definitely detecting the sound), audition doesn't seem to detect anything, and so it gives up recording after around 6 seconds and goes into the grey section (as opposed to red) I have the following settings on track 1 of multitrack; 'Out 1' = Motu Phones 1-2 'In 1' = Motu Mic-Guitar 1-2 The strange thing is, yesterday when I started experimenting with the mic, it was recording the sounds absolutely fine in Audition..is there something I'm doing that's really obviously wrong? Is it possible that when I opened Sonar 6 to do something else, it may have confused Audition? The other question is, is it possible to hear what the microphone is receiving through the HEADPHONES (as it records, so you can monitor it, AS WELL AS receiving the other sounds ie beats, instrumentals)? I would really appreciate your help - sorry these questions are about something so basic, but its really frustrating! Many many thanks

MOTU made both Firewire and USB2 versions of 828 MkII which both work fine with Audition. Yes you need to thoroughly check your Audition Hardware Setup for both Edit View and Multitrack View to get it all working properly. Monitoring your input and playing waves needs to be set up in the MOTU Cuemix software. It is there that you can set up four different mixes to monitor whatever you want and send to separate ouputs of the MOTU. For instance one can be set for the Main Outputs and another for the Headphones out. Make sure that Send .wav to Mix is selected in the Cuemix setup menu.

Thanks very much for your message, really appreciate it. When you say you need to check the audition hardware setup for both edit and multitrack view, do you mean check the ins and outs and where they are being sent to? Im not by my computer right now, but Im pretty sure that I checked everything to make sure the IN was mic/guitar in 1-2 (SE2200 via xlr into front panel of motu) and that the OUT was to my headphones, which are connected to the headphones socket on the front panel of the motu (therefore MOTU phones), yet despite all this, it still doesnt show any reading on the levels along the bottom of Audition! When you say you can setup 4 separate mixes, is that using the BUS 1 / BUS 2 / BUS 3 / BUS 4 along the bottom of the cue mix? What exactly is a BUS? If i setup a different setting on each of those buses, how do I get the motu to switch between them and recognise what it should do each time (ie which output to go to)? What do you mean by setting the send .wav to mix in the cuemix setup menu what is the purpose of this? Huge apologies for all the questions, but your answer seems to make sense to a degree, so I think youre the best person to ask!

am not at my MOTU eqipped PC for the next few days so cannot check the settings for Audition. To find out what Cuemix can do you will need to consult the manual that came with your MOTU device.
