Hi there, I'm using the RasterToPDF command, which works great. But the result is a version 1.4 PDF file. I need to have version 1.3... Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks, Jrg

The PDF version and many other options are controlled by .joboptions files. By default, the Print.joboptions file is used at:
{your install location}\required\settings\
Make a copy of one of the existing .joboptions files and name it something like: "Print.1.3.joboptions"
1. Edit the new job options file using either Distiller or a text editor so it specifies 1.3 compatible PDFs
2. Modify your XML to use the new job options file:
convertRasterToPDF options="Print.1.3.joboptions"
To modify a joboptions file with a text editor.
- Open the one you want to modify in a text editor
- Look for the line: CompatibilityLevel 1.4 (or whatever value is there now)
- Change it to: CompatibilityLevel 1.3
Modifying the AGS joboptions file with Distiller has one confusing aspect. See the Knowledgebase article at:

Hi Bob, Thanks! Is quickly tried it, but it still is a 1.4 version document. Can it have something to do with the embedded clipping path? Anyway, I will test some more and let you know.

Ok, it still doesn't work and it is making me crazy. I did exactly what you (Bob) described, and I should have that out myself if I read the correct files... The updated PDF for version 2.1 is not found in the documents folder, ok, bad excuse. Anyways, here is my XML command. Nothing fancy. I made sure that the joboptions have the 1.3 CompatibilityLevel. I even used the full path to the joboptions file with 'file:///'. That also doesn't work. The srcfile is a Photoshop EPS with a clipping-path. When I open the same file in Distiller with the same joboptions, it works great! But not in AGS! <commands> <loadContent source="srcfile"/> <convertPSToRaster options="AGS-Print" /> <trim basedOn="transparency"/> <flatten /> <convertProfile outProfile="iccfile"/> <convertRasterToPDF vectorDate="preserve" options="AGS-Print"/> <saveContent name="test" appendExtension="true" /> </commands> I hope that someone can help me out!! Maybe someone from Adobe, a techy, can help? Thanks anyway!

The docs say you have to specify the full path to the file but it works for me just giving the file name when it's in the settings folder. The full path would be safer. Is your file named "AGS-Print" or is it "AGS-Print.joboptions"? Either way should work as long as you use the full name in the options attribute. In any case, you should be seeing an error in the log if the options path isn't valid and AGS will fail to write the output. Just to make sure it isn't something about the source file, process a simple PSD.

OK, I just tested some more. We tried a simple PSD like you suggested. We used the "screen" options just to test if AGS uses the joboptions provided. This works great, but we keep getting the wrong version (1.4). "screen" even has 1.2 as CompatibilityLevel, so our file should be at least 1.3. I'm afraid that we have found a bug. Because I can't think of anything else. And where can I find the logs? The only logs I can find are the ones of the web-application. And we don't use that, because we use the COM+ environment. Thanks again!

First, It's usually easiest when trying to resolve a problem like this to use the command line interface to AGS running with a logLevel of 6. That way you can see in real time the progress through your commands and any errors or warnings. The details on setting up a COM log are on page 27 of the Installation Guide in the section for: "Object construction". Set it to 6 when trying to debug a problem--you'll get step by step reporting. Otherwise, set it to 3 (or 4) so that only errors (and warnings) are reported-- to avoid slowing down your processing by writing an overly detailed log. AGS may not support level 1.2--have your command specify the 1.3 level that you want. A level of 1.3 works for me.

Ok, tried the commandline, still doesn't work... I just can't find any errors...
This is our commandfile.
<commands>
<loadContent source="test.eps"/>
<convertPSToRaster/>
<trim basedOn="transparency"/>
<flatten method="Photoshop"/>
<convertRasterToPDF options="ags"/>
<saveContent name="test" appendExtension="true"/>
</commands>
And this is the response.
[NOTICE] Starting AlterCast request.
[INFO] Command parameters:
[INFO] End of command parameters.

It all works as a charm, but we still keep getting 1.4 files. We triple checked the joboptions for the correct CompatibilityLevel. So we are 100% sure it is 1.3.
What version/build of AGS are you using? This is our version info:

I used d012 I don't know what else to suggest other than opening a case with support.

Hi. I have some like problem with AGS and joboptions. I posted it today. Are you printing out the log from the AGS Response Object (if you are using java as API)? I get: [WARNING] Unused parameter: options Perhaps AGS don't read the joboptions file at all?
