I am using the command altercast to extract comments from PDF like this: altercast -source someFile.pdf -commands GetCmts.xml -resultLocation E:\ the content of GetCmts.xml is as follow: <commands resultOverwrite="true"> <exportComments /> <saveContent name="fileout.xml" /> </commands> But the altercast took very long time with no output I am using Adobe Document Server 6.0 on Windows server 2003

What version is the PDF? ADS has problems with some version 1.6 PDFs. Probably all 1.6 PDFs (Acrobat 7) that use new features not present in PDF 1. 5 (Acrobat 6) Very roughly how many pages and comments are in your test PDF? This command can be somewhat slow. Try with a one page PDF with one comment and see if that works. BTW: It's a lot easier (less keyboarding) to play with ADS XML commands using the runXML.bat helper script described on page 12 of the Samples "ReadMe.pdf". It's at: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Document Server 6.0\samples\README.pdf You can put your paths inside the command file and just enter into the command line: runXML myCommands.xml (or whatever the name of your commands file)

We have an ASP website for e-reviewing that has a list of projects. When the user want to review a file, a copy of it prefixed with the user name created in Network shared Folder. We developed .Net Windows Application to monitor the Folder. If a save event occurs on any PDF (markup was added). It calls altercast to extract the comments and then upload them into our database (oracle) Altercast, failed at our main server. We temporarily redirect the comments extraction to backup server (that has the shared folder with ADS installed and altercast works fine) until we resolve it on the main one.

If it works on one server but not the other, it sounds like some sort of configuration issue. You might look at the altercastserver process(es) in the task manager and see if ADS ever gets and starts working on the task.

I ran altercast on both servers. At each one, the command creates altercastserver process that ends quickly. The difference is that on main server altercast still show in Task manger Moreover, when ran the command on the backup server as another admin user it gave the same behavior on the main one. It appears that some policy or privilege is missing to successfully running altercas!

I suggest talking to Adobe support. - If you purchased ADS, you should have an Adobe Enterprise Support contract. - If not, your Adobe sales contact will be able to help you with pre-sales support. - If you don't have any current contacts at Adobe, use the form at: <http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/contactus.html>

I tried and it gave me the registration info but when I used some altercast command like extracting the comments, it works only for one domain user. The others could not run.
