Has anyone encountered this error, and do you have a fix or workaround? It's not in the knowledgebase. Symptoms are: FM 8.0 p277, creating PDF using Distill Professional 8.1.2; FM crashes when you try to build a PDF out of a book in one file. I have sent this fileset and the log to Adobe.

Jack, this is a bit of a FAQ. Search for "crash while pdfing" or similar strings.

The basic things to check:
* Are both aps fully patched? Check the update site rather than relying on the automated updater.
* Is Adobe Distiller/PDF set as the default printer?
* Can single component files be PDFed using this set up?
* Are all the files in the book open?
* Does the crash happen consistently, on a certain page?
* How much RAM and free disk space do you have?

Thanks, Art. I contacted Tech Support and they were stumped. They suggested recopying files as a last ditch effort (possible corrupted font). Tried Distiller as default. Single files can be used, but crash on a random basis. All files in book open. Crash not consistent - all files work fine on my home machine with same level of patches. 2 GB RAM on XP Pro, about 50 GB disk space.
If I can't fix, we will do a new disk image and start over. I will post if I find a fix.

Jack,

* Check the Distiller job settings for "Generate Tagged PDF." Which ever way it's set, try the other setting --- if it's Active now, turn it Off or vice versa.
* Save the book's component files (and the book file itself) to MIF and reopen them and save them as FM files to remove any corruption or stray characters. Omsys.com includes a utility to do this in one pass at the book level in their free eval of MIF2Go.

Cheers,
Art
