Postscript files that I've created from Quark6 or Indesign aren't recognized as postscript files by Distiller or my RIP on OS 9.x Macs. Does anyone know why? As a note: I can open the files in Word and save as "text file" and they are then recognized and ripped just fine. There has got to be a better way!

If there's an equivalent to the 'classic' File Exchange control panel, there may be an option somewhere in there to mark text files transferred to an OS 9 system with the appropriate Type code. > As a note: I can open the files in Word and save as "text file" and they are then recognized and ripped just fine. > > There has got to be a better way! Does adding a ".ps" or ".txt" suffix to the filename not help? What about an AppleScript droplet (or AS Folder Action) running on the OS 9 system, that changes the file-type of anything dropped onto (or into) it to TEXT? This would be something of a _post facto_ kluge, but at least it would be quick (doesn't need to read the file, just its Finder Info) & automatic -- and therefore far preferable to opening & resaving all the time. -- Odysseus

Mac OS 9 expects PostScript files to have a type "TEXT". For whatever reason, Mac OS X, no longer generates PostScript files with type "TEXT". Hence the problem. There are utilities (e.g. resedit) that can change the file type without having to open the file. Aandi Inston

Thanks Aandi, it looks like you were 100% correct.
