How badly do you want to contiue using PressReady? <
Ho,
I'm coming to the conclusion that it's best to consider options that don't include PressReady!
My PC is about three and a half years old, a P3 450, so not desperate to be changed, but will need to be eventually. One solution is to find a PC manufacturer that would provide a dual boot win 2K / XP system, but if the rumours are true about April being the cut off date for a manufacturer to ship Win 2K on a system, it puts a time constraint on it (I currently run a Win 98 / 2K dual boot system --- replacing W98 with W2K would have invalidated my Dell 3 year warranty, which has now expired).
Coupled with the fact that my Epson 1270, intermittently puts black ink splotches over the paper, a new printer may be in order.
The Canon S9000 gets very good reviews and the UK Canon web site now recommends the iProof 2000 postscript RIP as a solution for turning it into press proofing with the printer, both of which work with WinXP. I know there have been mixed reviews on here of the iProof RIP, but you can download a trial version to work with the 1270, so at some stage, I will do that.
Other new printer options are the HP 1700ps and HP designJet 10ps. The latter uses a proper Adobe Postscript 3 RIP, and I think the 1700 also does Im not sure if you can add custom Press Profiles or are limited to standard SWOP and Euroscale though.
So Im beginning to think the best way is to put the PC upgrade off longer so that I can afford a new printer at the same time, or go with a dual boot system, depending on if I could get one and how long Microsoft allows Win2K as an OEM operating system choice.
Dick
