WOW !!.
This was my problem also. And I have repaired it using the instructions given in: <http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?event=view&id=KC.329137&extid=329137&dialogID=2930021&iterationID=1&sessionID=4830d2290e7b6e121403&stateID=0+0+2932034&mode=simple>
I had to change the permissions in the Windows Registry for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes\.pdf\PersistentHandler
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes\CLSID...\PersistentHandler
and ...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{4C904448-74A9-11d0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}\InprocServer32 >> Set (Predeterminado) to = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRdIF.dll
Now I can say that I am not afraid of "touching" Registry (with a previous backup) !!.
