In trying to troubleshoot another problem (turned out to be bad CD/DVD drive), I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8. Windows XP uninstall did not work, so I removed it manually. Now, when I try to reinstall, I receive this message: "This version of Adobe Reader is already present on your computer. Installation will now exit." How can I get by this so that the installation will continue? I'm guessing there are entries in the Registry or some files remnant on the hard disk that make the install program think AR 7.0.8 is there when in fact it is gone. Thanks, -- Wietze

You may be able to use Add/Remove Programs to Repair. Try that first. On NO ACCOUNT manually uninstall software. Windows Installer has a database of what is installed and so this is not changed. If you start changing the registry you can damage that database and get into a situation that cannot be repaired, without reformatting the disk. So don't do that! What you may need to use is Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Be sure to follow the instructions precisely; in particular, after cleaning up, reinstall, even if you then uninstall immediately. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 Aandi Inston

Aandi, Thanks for your advice. On Add/Remove, I could not find any option to "repair". I ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility on Adobe 7.0.8. OK. However, when I go to reinstall, I still get the same message as before. "This version of Adobe Reader is already present on your computer. Installation will now exit." (I had previously deleted all \program files\ related to Adobe... Do you have any more ideas? Thanks, -- Wietze

MarkATS, I removed all Adobe related files in \program files\ and in my \documents and settings\. I think I still have them in the Recycle Bin. Thanks, -- Wietze
