Marilyn I remember calculating the size of books based on type manuscripts. We called it casting off, and I was generally accurate within a page or two on a 400 page book. Now I suspect the skill is lost. Almost everything is on a PC disk by the time it gets to the production department, and you need only pop in the disks, create a txt file, and add up the file sizes.
