My first posting - hope this works! I need to run a simple Fortran routine on my intel-based RH5.2 system. When issuing the command f77 (or g77) program_name.f I get the following message: /usr/bin/ld: cannot open crtl.o:No such file or directory. I've installed the relevant compiler and libraries so I don't know what's going on. I've typed this message into a search engine and this problem appears quite common; problem is I've not come across a solution. The routines work just fine on a Unix workstation. Be grateful for any help. Cheers Jules

Hey jules, ld is the GNU Linker program and it's trying to link a module called crtl.o. I'm not familiar with fortran (well maybe once or twice on a BBC Micro!!) but it sounds like the linker has just come across a file it can't find. probably best doing this as root: #find / -name "crtl*" -print if it comes back with the file you're after, but, for example, the file is not in your path, you could make a symbolic link eg if file was in /usr/sbin/mods (just an example) and wasnt in your path, you could issue the following as a quick and dirty work around: #ln -s /usr/sbin/mods/crtl.o /bin/crtl.o Obviously you don't have to put it into bin, you could slap it wherever you like in the path. Finally. The file MAY already exist in your path, it might just be that you don't have access privs to the file. Try finding the file and doing an ls -l on that file to see if you have sufficient access privs. Best Of Luck, Al.
