     Regarding the death pool as a game: if athletes can become rich
simply because they're good at playing a certain game, why can't
someone with talent for picking people who are soon to die be equally
rewarded?  Answer:  He can be - if there were a national death pool
organized with the concept that the best death-predicters walk away
with the kind of money people with talent deserve.  In a properly run
national death pool there would be thousands of names to choose from,
and many combinations of bets could be played.  Sure, some people could
become addicted to the game and have their lives destroyed by gambling
debts as they chase the big prize.  There would be luck in the death
pool, as in most games, but in the end the better players will find an
edge somewhere and will walk away with the cash.  People have talent
for different things.  It's a shame that people who are good at picking
who's going to die next must waste their talent because a
well-organized big money death pool doesn't exist.  I'm in an NFL pool
every year.  I love that pool.  But soon the football season will end
and the pool will be over.  That's what's great about the death pool,
it has no seasons.
