Several possibilities. Have you recently added another SCSI
device to your chain? If so, it could be a SCSI numbering
problem, maybe a duplicate (in which case renumber the
devices, and to be save make sure they're attached in the
numeric order on the chain, this isn't always necessary but
doesn't hurt). Or it could be a cabling problem, adding
cables to the chain sometimes mucks up communications.

If not, have you recently moved your computer? Perhaps the
cable went bad (it can do this without movement, but not as
likely). You do want to have thick cables; and the total
length of cables including all devices can't exceed some
large number of feet, seem to remember 18 but this could be wrong).

Or, possibly a piece of your operating system has been
munged, maybe a result of installing new software or just
due to cosmic rays hitting the wrong bit. In this case you
need to reinstall at least that piece (if you're using a
Mac, reinstall the system and the finder, maybe a clean
install would be a good idea). In the most severe case
something has happened to your hard drive, you can tell by
running disk utilities (on the Mac use Disk1stAid, on
Windows there's some control panel or other). You may have
to reformat the drive and then reinstall the OS.

If you're using a Mac, be sure and download a copy of
SCSIProbe, which may be able to mount the drive even when
the OS can't see it.
