> Actualy that title only refers to engineers with a PhD. Someone with a
masters in engineering would have the title "Herr X, Diplom Ingenieur"
which literaly translated is "Lord X Diploma Engineer" - Idiomatic - "Mr
X, University Engineer" A 4 year degree is considered to be a simple
degree, not a diploma and the title is "Herr Koll, Ingenieur (TH)" - TH
is the abreviation for Technical Highschool which is the the equivilent
of a 4 year college.

Variations on the form would be

Diplom Ingenieur Lafontane (Engineer with masters degree)
Ingenieur Koll. (Engineer with technical highschool degree)

So, while the Germans are quite capable of creating a grandious title for
someone with 6 - 8 years of study, simple 4 year degrees are a dime a
dozen.
