Do Thyroid Antibodies Ever Just "Disappear?"

A family member was hypothyroid and took Synthroid from 1976-1987. This
person, a vegetarian, has had normal TSH levels ever since and attributes
many health problems to the synthetic hormone.

But recently, a test showed that (s)he was producing antibodies. Since
the hypothyroid problem went away of its own accord, (s)he would like to
hear from people whose thyroiditis has gone away of its own accord.

In particular, I'd appreciate (very much) hearing more from the people who
wrote about flaxseed oil. The family member has just begun to take
flaxseed oil.

E-mail or posts welcome. Thank you.

Well my autoimmune thyroid antibodies come and go, and about 12 years ago I
was hypo and was on thyroxine for 7 years and then my thyroid recovered and
I didn't need any more medication, its a strange ailment.

Hi there

I take flaxseel oil as it is supposed to be - among other things - an
antiinflammatory (I have TED). I don't feel it has a huge effect though,
because if I forget to take it and then do take it, I don't see any changes
when I begin again. This maybe because there are no more changes in the
progress of my TED. According to one of my sources
"...(Flax has )... a lubricating effect on intestinal membranes, good for
constipation, sore throats and tonsillitis."
I would like to think this is why I recovered from a recent sore throat/cold
quite quickly and hubby didn't.
There are other uses among which is the residue of the oil is used to fatten
cattle. So flax may contribute to a slight increase in weight.
Kindest regards,
Diana
