How can I go about removing the several Meg of stuff that LiveWare 2.0 added to my registry? I am running Win 98 on a PIII 500MHz, 64Meg RAM computer. Have run: WinOptimizer RegClean EasyClean and done scanreg /fix in dos. These have taken an 8.9 Meg file down to 8.5 Meg. Performance does not appear different. From having taken a peek at the registry in a text editor (WordPerfect), I see that a whole wack of Creative stuff is still in there. Any ideas!? Thanks! Martin Lacoste

Keep in mind that the registry is a database and removing several dozen or even several hundred entries will not likely make a huge difference in the file size of user.dat and system.dat. When items are deleted from the registry they are marked to not be read as opposed to being removed and new items are simply added to the end, which is why scanreg used with the /fix and /opt switches will trim the size (rebuilding registry without dead entries and compacting) You could use regedit.exe to manually remove bad entries but if they're not causing problems I doubt the return is worth any risks. Whatever you do, make extra registry backups before experimenting too much. -- Steve Yandl "Deb & Martin Lacoste" <trumpet@home.com> wrote in message news:39A2E91A.2E52B210@home.com... > How can I go about removing the several Meg of stuff that LiveWare 2.0 > added to my registry? > > I am running Win 98 on a PIII 500MHz, 64Meg RAM computer. Upgrade IMMEDIATELY to LW 3.0 !!! Also get latest May drivers for SB LIVE! from Creative's WWW site. If you don't need many of the junk in there, JSUT install the Mixer and essential files... I'd suggest you to keep out all Lauchers, samples, toys of any kind... JUST the essential... uninstall LW2.0 frist, and remove any "trace" of previous SB LIVE drivers/data. I have Liveware 3.0 In the registry is the biggest part the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Creative Tech\Devcon\ConfigSets There are the presets for 2speaker/4speaker/surround/headphones saved. Ypu can save a snapshot of this part and delete the unneccessary 3 trees out of 4. You will save around 1 Megbyte (exported .reg-file will be around 3 MB) The much bigger part of the liveware3 is the trash which will be installed in the "Program Files". After cleaning up all demos, zipping all registry files (*.sea and *.reg) and removing the "Update-®istration-trash" my complete (!!) Liveware 3.0 is only 40MB - that's ok for me.
