 The arrogance of man:

[excerpt from an answer to a Data Communications question]:

"This number is 1000 times the age of the universe. Of course, the
address space is not flat............................"

Why is it that scientists think they know everything?
Seems to me it would wiser not to state things that can't be proved.
Being a computer science student myself, I find it particularly
offensive
that this statement should arise in an answer to a Data Communications
question.
The western world has seen many great inventions particularly in the
last century. As we head into the future, let us always remember that
God is in control.

God sent his Son to die on a wooden cross for the sake of humanity.
This single sacrifice means that all men can live life to the full. The
Gospel speaks of God's love reaching down to hopeless sinners. Friend,
if you ave not known this love, I urge you to read the Holy Bible,
which is God's word.
Have you ever felt deep despair when you consider the hopelessness of
life?
Is university life getting you down?
Do not despair. God is everywhere. He knows what's going on.
Having troubles with your boyfriend or girlfriend? THe BIble tells us
how we can build and maintain successful and loving relationships.
Our society is saturated with sex. Sex is a beautiful thing and should
be treated with respect.

As examinations draw near, let us persevere with hope and remember that
it doesn't matter if
we pass or fail. What matters most is that we tried our best, even we
don't meet our expectations. Everyone makes mistakes, so don't worry if
you haven't studied enough. I know a lot of us get stressed for one
reason or another. But keep it in perspective. So what if u fail?
Big deal, there's more to life.

I'm a hopeless sinner. I continue to struggle from day to day. Apathy
can set in, so can laziness.
But if I keep focussed on what I am trying to achieve, I know I will
make it. If you have exams coming, I hope you achieve your personal
best. Don't worry about how much other people seem to know - some
people are clever at hiding their emotions.

Good luck!!!

They don't. But they do know a hell of a lot more than the semitic
goatherders that wrote the bible. They thought the world was flat, you know.
The description of the ascension of Christ makes no sense otherwise.

But your post is far worse. As is mine, I suppose.

No he isn't. God is becoming steadily less relevant, except in the middle
east where they still think the idea is terribly important and have the wars
to prove it. The secularism of Australia is the main thing allowing us to be
the tolerant and easygoing place we are. Deeply religious places tend to be
shitholes.

> God sent his Son to die on a wooden cross for the sake of humanity.

Actually, it was a stake. Gr: "Staruos" - "stake". Not "crux". The romans
did not invest in carpentry simply to have something to execute people on.
The t-shaped cross was not introduced into christainity unitl the 7th
century. It's a pagan phallic emblem, of course, although christianity
insists on hanging it upside-down in the "limp dick" position.

By the way - the "fish" symbol is also a pagan fertility emblem. It'
supposed to be hung vertically.

> This single sacrifice means that all men can live life to the full.

A sacrifice that you get back again after 3 days is hardly a sacrifice.

Why would God need to sacrifice himself to himself, to satisfy a debt
incurred against himself due to rules that he made?

If "sin" is a matter of moral right and wrong, then subtitutionary atonement
makes no sense. If a person murders, we do not allow someone to got to
prison on his behalf. One of the most important biblical principles of
justice is Ezek 18:20 "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall
not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the
iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him,
and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. ". The Christian idea of
atonement for moral wrong flies in the face of this.

Alternatively, if "sin" is a matter of injury done God which must be
compensated for - how can our actions "injure" God? And if he is going to
forgive these injuries, why the requirement for an atoning sacrifice?
Shouldn't he simply - you know - *forgive* these wrongs done him, as he
tells Christains to forgive wrongs done them?

The Holy Bible is a tissue of plagiarisms from other religions and outright
forgeries by the early church. No -one knows who wrote the gospels, so it's
all hearsay.

This is disgusting. How can you froth at the mouth about the terrible ways
cults suck people into their systems, when you attempt to make converts in
exactly the same way - by preying on lonely people?

To the students: dont be fooled by anybody's promise of easy answers.

> Our society is saturated with sex. Sex is a beautiful thing and should
> be treated with respect.

As opposed to the way it is treated in Numbers 31, by order of God. And why
does Paul, in Romans, equate all sin with homosexuality? What's his problem?

> I'm a hopeless sinner. I continue to struggle from day to day. Apathy
> can set in, so can laziness.

And if you don't marinate your mind in prayer, bible reading, christian
music and fellowship continually, your imaginary God-construct starts to
fade and become unreal. Like a leaky canoe, you have to keep it pumped up.
That's why christains have that two-dimensional happiness, you know. They
spend most of their psychic energy maintaining their internal God-thing, and
don't have enough left to feel anything deeply. All strong emotions are
reserved for God, everything else is to be regarded with bland
unattachment - they are only pilgrims here, after all.

This:

> As examinations draw near, let us persevere with hope and
> remember that it doesn't matter if we pass or fail.

is a perfect example.

> "Graduate from the university of life and you

What silly arrogance - most of those PhDs graduated from the university of
life too, you know.

"Entrepreneur" (at least I use my real name, Gutless), why don't you keep
this in alt.atheism.holysmoke where it
belongs?

And just what do you know? Don't even dare compare yourself with scientists.
You haven't even passed your undergraduate exams and you keep complaining
about how hard they are, and yet you try to advertise yourself as a
consultant. If you stopped spouting all that tripe you go on with and got on
with your studies you might at least keep off this news group annoying
everyone with your grizzling. Get a life.
